Our Favorite Quote Of The Week – “You’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.” – Robin Williams
But I Don’t Even Like Peas! – Trauma physicians write about it following years of witnessing odd occurrences that, after happening over and over again well beyond the “This is still just a coincidence” point, cannot be ignored. The medical literature is filled with countless accounts of transplant and transfusion patients who, over time, realize they crave foods they never craved before. Cellular memory is one explanation, but why try to explain away such an odd and playful transformation? Well, what if healthier eating habits and the love of broccoli were just a transfusion away? Science would like to clone perfect beauty and intelligence; maybe all we need is a small infusion of good taste and self-love!
That Italian Sub Would Look Great in a Muffin Tin – Do you ever get the urge to create a meal out of ingredients that would not normally be served together? We have a friend who is not shy about trying something odd and different. His latest concoction was an Italian Sub Quiche. The idea just popped in his mind, for no apparent reason. It was on a Wednesday, as we recall. He called in a large JPD Italian Sub, brought it home and proceeded to cut it into rough and random little chunks. All of it. The resulting dish has since become a favorite buffet item whenever he gathers friends for the evening. Here is the recipe:
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Chop a large Italian Sub into rough pieces. Toss in a large bowl.
Coat a 12-cup muffin tin with light cooking spray.
Whisk 4 eggs and 2 cups whole milk until well combined.
Divide 1/2 the chopped sub among the muffin cups.
Pour 1/2 the egg mixture over each cup.
Add the remaining chopped sub.
Complete with the remaining egg mixture.
Bake until the center of those little improvised quiches is set (15 to 20 minutes).
Serve with a side of crudités… and you’ll want to try this recipe with the GodFather Sub too!
National Grilled Cheese Day and Then Some – Did you know there is a National food for every single day of the year? We are not too sure who decides these things. We imagine a roomful of gourmet chefs and foodies who somehow, through deliberations, sharing of experience and tastes, and some super-human culinary clairvoyance ability, zero in on the perfect food to celebrate on Monday, April 11… and every other day before and after this. Curious? Here is this week’s line-up:
- Monday, April 11 – National Cheese Fondue Day. For a variation on the theme, you might enjoy a slice of that leftover JPD pizza from last night.
- Tuesday, April 12 – National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day (It IS on the 158 Main Menu ya know!).
- Wednesday, April 13 – National Peach Cobbler Day.
- Thursday, April 14 – National Pecan Day.
- Friday, April 15 – National Glazed Ham Day.
- Saturday, April 16 – National Eggs Benedict Day (You know where to go for this one too!)
