158 - alfredo

A Few Famous Foods Named After Women – We begin with Margherita Pizza, in 1889 Italy. When Queen Margherita of Savoy and her beloved husband, King Umberto I, traveled to Naples, chef Raffaele Esposito seized the opportunity to impress the regal guests. He fashioned three different pizzas, one of which featured ingredients in the colors of the Italian flag. Not only did it catch the Queen’s eye, but she loved it best. Naturally, the chef had just found the perfect name for his new pie. 25 years later, in 1914, chef Alfredo Delillo created the now famous Fettuccine bearing his name. In truth, this was inspired by his wife and her rather challenging demands for new tastes while pregnant. In a moment of utter genius, Alfredo decided to triple the amount of butter in his traditional cheese and butter sauce. Mother and unborn child approved instantly.

158 - texting

Don’t Text And Eat – According to a University of California study (2011), shifting your attention from one task to another repeatedly may have undesirable effects on short-term memory. Incidentally, many studies show that multi-tasking does not increase efficiency. In another study, drivers took longer to reach their destinations when they used their cellphones while driving. Shifting the attention back and forth abruptly makes it difficult for the brain to process and retain information. When this practice becomes a habit, short-term memory becomes sluggish. Individuals in their 20’s and 30’s who text while performing other tasks have developed short-term memory gaps similar to what individuals in their 60’s and above normally experience.
